  • by

In order to enter the valley, you need to go from Ortahisar to Kızılçukur panorama terrace. There is an entrance fee. The panorama terrace is the point where the people meet to watch the sun set in Cappadocia. There is a large parking area at the terrace. In order to enter Kızılçukur valley, you need to take the foot path, 250 Mt down to Üzümlü Church. Just before reaching Üzümlü Church, there is a sign board showing the entrance foot path of the valley. The walking distance is not mentioned on the sign board but the total distance from the valley entrance to Çavuşin village is around 5000 Mt and it can be taken in 3 – 4 hours. The Kızılçukur valley trekking starts after visiting Üzümlü Church. The frescos of this church have been done before icon lasting period and they were able to reach today. It is one of the rare churches of Cappadocia in terms of these characteristics. The frescos of the Üzümlü Church have been done by Saint Nicholas, who took Saint Simeon as an example for himself. His cell is located on the upper part of the church.

As you start walking through Kızılçukur Valley, you will pass through several tunnels. The longest tunnel is 37 Mt. The middle part of this tunnel is dark therefore it would be better for you to have a small torch with you. The tunnel ends with a perpendicular landing path of 20 Mt height. Here you will see two iron stairs. You may use these stairs to go down. It is better for you to climb  down from the stairs reserve in order not to be effected from the height  and also for security reasons. After a while Kızılçukur Valley meets with Meskendir Valley. After this point the walking will continue by following Meskendir Valley until Çavuşin village.
